About

A practice of cultivation, not optimization.

Cultivated Progression is a research and engineering practice based in Las Vegas, Nevada. It investigates the systems — physical, cognitive, social — that produce real progression, and engineers new ones where the inherited ones have stopped working.

Founded 2025 Las Vegas, NV 10 active projects

The work spans engineering (industrial automation, robotics, fusion, ore processing, lunar habitation), learning (mastery-based education, mental performance training), and instrument design (a bowed piano). The breadth is not unfocused — it follows from a single methodological commitment: most of the constraints that look natural turn out to be artifacts of historical convenience, and the most productive engineering question is usually which assumption are we still paying for that nobody chose.

The portfolio is organized into three modes of work. Projects are engineering and applied-research efforts at varying levels of maturity — some prototyped, some at design stage, some still in research. Observations are long-form essays on cultural and social patterns, written as diagnosis rather than prescription. Theoretical Notes are speculative first-principles papers on foundational physics, examining premises that are usually taken for granted.

How the work is done.

Each project starts the same way: a careful inventory of the constraints, a separation of the constraints that are physical from the constraints that are inherited, and a redesign that drops the inherited ones. The TFOPS architecture exists because conventional ore processing assumes you must throw away most of the rock; the asteroid mining drill exists because conventional laser drilling assumes the laser is the cutting tool rather than the plasma it generates; the education platform exists because conventional curricula assume time-spent is a reasonable proxy for mastery.

The output is not always a product. Sometimes it is a paper, sometimes a prototype, sometimes a working piece of software, sometimes a clearly-stated diagnosis with no prescription attached. Each one is calibrated to the kind of result the work can actually support.

What this site is.

This site is a working portfolio. Every project links to a brief written for a serious reader and to the underlying technical PDF. Status badges are accurate: prototyped means there is working code or hardware; designing means the architecture is documented in detail and the next step is build; research means the question is still open. Nothing is dressed up.
